#FeedThyTummyOrganic! Homemade blueberry chia jam?! Yes please! I have always been afraid of tackling homemade jam. I assumed it would be a lot of work so I was determined to find a recipe that was easy and healthy! If you have not heard of Chia seeds they seem to be the latest & greatest- yet, they have been used since 3500 BC. Aztecs & Mayans ground chia in to flour& pressed them to oil- they were considered to be magical b/c of their ability to increase stamina. Something that amazes me about this seed, is its ability to soak up liquid! Chia absorbs 12x its weight in liquid which is why they help you to fill full longer. Chia helps balance blood sugar, they are loaded with omega 3s & anti-oxidants. They are amazing little seeds. So, why not put those little liquid soakers to work and make some healthy, organic jam! Jam is not usually my go to because of all the added sugar. Isn’t the sweetness of the fruit enough? I think so. Adding a small amount of maple syrup to this recipe complements the natural sweetness of the berries nicely without making it too sweet. This recipe is easy, but you don’t have to tell your friends that :) *In a saucepan, put 4 cups of organic berries & 3 tablespoons organic maple syrup. *stirring regularly bring to a low boil *lower the temperature & simmer for 5 minutes -this is when I use my spoon to lightly mash some of the berries - *stir in 3 tablespoons of chia seeds & stir *keeping your temperature med-low stir often and watch your jam come to life! After about 15 minutes your jam is ready! I leave mine on the stove to cool, then transfer to a reusable glass jar. Be sure to keep your jam in the fridge. Like any organic item, w/out preservatives the shelf life is short- I would consume within 2 weeks to keep it at its freshest! Mine will not last that long! Enjoy! xx
#FeedThyTummyOrganic! Homemade organic Flax Milk w/ raw cocoa …. Amazing!! I fall further in love w/ my #vitamix each & every day! Yesterday I came up w/ a simple flax milk recipe that I am so excited to share. This is so healthy, easy, inexpensive and free from all those nasty additives & fillers that many store bought milk alternatives contain. I am too impatient to soak my flax seeds so no need! This recipe makes a small batch- try it first then double next time?! *Put 1/4 cup raw organic flax seeds & 3 cups of H2O in your vitamix. *Blend on 10- then high, for about 90 seconds. *place a fine strainer over a bowl & poor the flax milk in slowly- this will remove any of the flax fibres (use a spatula to help the milk move along) *poor the strained flax milk back in to your blender *add 2 heaping teaspoons of raw cocoa powder - if you want to sweeten add a pinch of stevia- *blend for a few seconds and your done! Poor your freshly made flax milk in to a reusable jar & refrigerate. I like to wait till my flax milk is really cold! There are so many options w/ this recipe, I can’t wait to experiment w/ different options! I suggest finishing this off within a week to keep it at its freshest! I am sure you will have no problem with that ;) Enjoy! Cheers! xx
#FeedThyTummyOrganic! Skip the store bought trail mix, make your own! Its much less expensive & you control the ingredients. Stroll down the organic bulk aisle at your favourite grocery store & choose your ingredients! I am allergic to nuts so I stick to mainly seeds & dried fruit. In this batch I chose: pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, cranberries, coconut shavings, dried pineapple chunks & a few chocolate chips .. Delicious!! This will not last long in my house - xx
